Baruch 2:5
Good News Translation
We sinned against the Lord our God and refused to obey him. Therefore, our nation was conquered, instead of being victorious.

They were brought down and not raised up, because our nation sinned against the Lord our God, in not heeding his voice.

Our country was defeated and humiliated in every way, because we had disobeyed the Lord our God and sinned against him.
