Wisdom 16:18
Good News Translation
At one point the flames died down, so that they wouldn't destroy the creatures sent to punish the ungodly. Those people had to learn that they were being overtaken by your judgment.

At one time the flame was restrained, so that it might not consume the creatures sent against the ungodly, but that seeing this they might know that they were being pursued by the judgment of God;

One time you kept the fire under control, so that it would not destroy the frogs and flies that were sent to punish those pagans and to let them know you were the one doing all of this.
