Good News Translation
Death also came to the righteous nation, for an epidemic struck many of them while they were in the desert, but your anger did not last long.

The experience of death touched also the righteous, and a plague came upon the multitude in the desert, but the wrath did not long continue.

For a while, you were angry with your people in the desert and killed many of them with a terrible disease.

And he overcame the disturbance, not by strength of body nor with force of arms, but with a word he subdued him that punished them, alleging the oath and covenant made with the fathers.
