Good News Translation
The people of Jerusalem fled in fear, and the city became a colony of foreigners. Jerusalem was foreign to its own people, who had been forced to abandon the city.

New Revised Standard Version
Because of them the residents of Jerusalem fled; she became a dwelling of strangers; she became strange to her offspring, and her children forsook her.

Contemporary English Version
Everyone ran from Jerusalem. Their own city became a foreign country to them, and strangers moved in.
