The king also sent messengers with a decree to Jerusalem and all the towns of Judea, ordering the people to follow customs that were foreign to the country.

And the king sent letters by messengers to Jerusalem and the towns of Judah; he directed them to follow customs strange to the land,

Messengers from Antiochus brought letters, telling everyone in Jerusalem and in all the towns of Judea about this law. They said: You must obey the king's law and accept these new customs.
