2 Maccabees 8:2
Good News Translation
They begged the Lord to help his people, now trampled under foot by all nations, to take pity on the Temple, now defiled by pagans,

They implored the Lord to look upon the people who were oppressed by all; and to have pity on the temple that had been profaned by the godless;

Afterwards, they prayed: Our Lord, we've been horribly abused by everyone! Please have pity on us and on your temple that these godless foreigners have made unfit for worship.
