Numbers 15:38
Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt tell them to make to themselves fringes in the corners of their garments, putting in them ribands of blue:

fringes in the borders.

Numbers 15:39 That when they shall see them, they may remember all the commandments of the Lord, and not follow their own thoughts and eyes going astray after divers things,

, we learn that these were emblematical of the commands of God. That there is any analogy between a fringe and a precept, it would be bold to assert; but when a thing is appointed to represent another, no matter how different, that first object becomes the legitimate representative or sign of the other.

Deuteronomy 22:12 Thou shalt make strings in the hem at the four corners of thy cloak, wherewith thou shalt be covered.

Matthew 9:20 And behold a woman who was troubled with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.

Matthew 23:5 And all their works they do for to be seen of men. For they make their phylacteries broad and enlarge their fringes.

Luke 8:44 She came behind him and touched the hem of his garment: and immediately the issue of her blood stopped.
